Best of Intentions

The man in the hallway is cleaning up grief
While travelers chase after time like a thief
With oversized bags they wait for relief in the dawn
The Best of Intentions all get up and leave before long

The highway is frozen with cold working stiffs
Who sit in their well heated cars tightly lipped
Wait for the light to change red to green then move on
The Best of Intentions all get up and leave before long

Sooner or later
The good and the bad
All end up being just times that we had
Don’t take it too hard
Thinking you figured it wrong

The sun went away and it ain’t coming back
It would be a shame if you forgot how to laugh
Would be a shame turning your back on a song
The Best of Intentions all get up and leave before long

I told you I loved you
And tried not to cry
Told you the angels all know how to fly
Cross my heart
This ain’t goodbye, just so long

Red sky at night is a sailor’s delight
So I put on my skates and I’m crossing the ice
Holding my breath, I think once or twice about God
The Best of Intentions all get up and leave before long

The man in the hallway is cleaning up grief
The faithful will always fall back on belief
I wish there was something I could believe to belong
The Best of Intentions all get up and leave before long
The Best of Intentions all get up and leave before long
